is this thing capable of duplicating double bitted steel safe keys if i throw a plunge cut blade on it? its a top down duplicator so i could fit long keys in it but im worried it wont cut them accurately or will not have the power or capability using a plunge cut blade.

Oh Yeah, plunge cut takes the least power, side milling slotter would be harder to run

Just buy an old Keil slotting cutter. They usually go for about $150 and quit trying to make do with something that isn't really designed for the job.

In short though yes the Cole 200 will work in a pinch.

i dont know which key machine you mean cledry. if i could find one like that, i would definitely buy it. right now i am looking at this machine on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cole-key-duplic ... 1993646935

however, i am concerned that i will have to do some sort of tracer modification, will the hpc retrofit kit work for it? or am i going to have to take the tracer out and file it down until it is the same width as the plunge cut blade i am using? in this case, i plan on using a level meter over the two while filing to make sure i get it very close. i figure that should be good enough because these locks are not exactly super precise.

The Foley 200 is a good machine, it will do the job. How is it set up? Which of the cylinder key cutters is that machine set for? Did you get it set up for the single sided one or the double sided code cutter?

When you change out the cutter and the tracer, you need to "zero" the machine for that cutting session and that set of blanks. Once you have set the unit, just tip stop both keys, and cut away. Remember - that is a .055 cutter, so several passes may be needed to cut the full width of the cuts. It will cut everything you throw at it which can be cut by a rotary machine.

Just take it easy, and feed the cuts slowly and evenly and let the Foley do its thing. Like Dremel, a little at a time the job will get done.

Just for giggles, I will add this, MY Foley has a set of spacer keys for several safe deposit keys. Diebolt, Mosler, S & G, and Yale. I have made keys on it in the field, but prefer to cut them down here on the Framon -- it can be done.

foley 200 will not do the job, im cutting double bitted safe keys which are VERY long. there is no way they would fit on the machine without the jaws being vertical.

The Cole National I picked up the other day( not sure If its a 200 or not ) has a light fixture protruding out the back and up, Plenty of room in the key chucks for these FOB keys.. got it home and went to cut a key, as soon as that key hit the cutter it stoped.. went hmmmmmmmm.. so unpluged it and took it apart seems when the guy accepted my 60.00 bucks for it HE turned it on and said.. See ??? it works... unpluged it and away i went.. Long story short after taking the screws out of the Gear box cover the Middle gear was gone !
was wondering if one of those old Curtis gears would work... If anyone knows anything about these please ring in.. cant seem to find one for this unit.. now its personal.. but def my fault for not checking it out all the way...
